We see hundreds of different oil brands on the store shelves, but to find one that is 100% pure and unadulterated seems to be quite a challenging task. In this modern era, most of us have switched to packaged items that are laden with additives, hydrogenated fats, and emulsifiers.
Here in this post, we are sharing the easiest method to make 100% pure Coconut Oil at home! You don’t need any special equipment for this, just a couple of coconuts are needed. By making your coconut oil at home, you will have the peace of mind of knowing that there are no additives, preservatives and artificial colors or flavors in your coconut oil.
You can use this homemade coconut oil both for cooking and beauty purposes.
). Take 2-3 Coconuts.
). Poke holes in them and drain the coconut water into a jar.
). Shave off as much of the outer shell of the coconut as you can. Now using a hammer, crack open the coconut.
). Using a sharp knife peel the brown coconut skin. After the outside brown skin of the coconut is peeled off, finely chop the inside white part of the coconut (i.e coconut meat).
). Now add these finely chopped coconut chunks into a blender. Add water to the blender to help in mixing. *It is recommended that you at least add 50 percent more water than you have coconut meat. For example, if you have two cups of coconut meat, add 3-4 cups of water.
). Place the lid on the blender and plug it in. Turn the blender ‘ON’ and blend until well shredded. You may add some more water to help it blend, if necessary.
). Filter the coconut milk. Put a strainer over a large bowl. Pour coconut mixture onto the strainer.
). Squeeze the milk into the bowl underneath. *Squeeze hard, to make sure you get every last drop. If you don’t have a strainer, you can use cheesecloth instead.
). Discard the coconut flakes that remain in the strainer. *If you don’t want to discard the coconut flakes, you can transfer them to a large tray. Place them outside in a dry sunny place (this requires warm, dry weather). Let them sit out in the sun for 2-3 days, or until dry. These coconut flakes can then be used for topping on cakes or for other purposes.
). Cover the bowl (in which you squeezed the coconut milk). Leave it unattended for 24 hours. It’s recommended that you leave the bowl in a cool place. If the weather conditions are hot in your area, you can place this bowl in the refrigerator, but make sure you don’t disturb or move it from its place. Within 24 hours, a thick layer of curd will appear at top of the bowl.
). Now carefully scoop out the top thick layer of curd with a spoon and transfer it to a pan.
). Cook this thick layer of curd on medium heat until it separates from oil and turns brown.
). Turn off the heat. Strain the oil. Your pure homemade Coconut oil is READY!
